Junior Chamber International Maldives (JCI Maldives) is part of a global non-profit organization of young leaders, aged 18 – 40 from different backgrounds, cultures and professions.
JCI Maldives launched Ekugai Relief Initiative as part of their response to mitigate effects of COVID19 pandemic on the communities. The relief program provides iftar meals across the Maldives to people in need. You can request for a meal package by simply leaving a name and a number on any of their social media pages or with a text to 9511880.
“Our number one rule is, we don’t ask questions. Any person residing in Maldives, regardless of their race, nationality and beliefs can request for a meal from us. We have placed order for 635 meals to be delivered throughout the Ramadan till this day and we expect that number to go up” Aishath Azal Ali Zahir - Deputy Secretary General of JCI Maldives,
According to Ms Aishath the Organization has received 30% of the funds required to meet their goal of providing minimum 1000 meals throughout the Ramadan, and they seek public support to continue the program.
The program is entirely funded from donations received from public. JCI Maldives caps donations accepted from individuals at 10,000 MVR or $666 per year, and information about donors and their affiliation to the organization is public information, according to their website. JCI Maldives is a Charitable Organization listed by Maldivian Inland Revenue Authority, therefore, donor’s details are shared with the Registrar of Associations and MIRA annually. The organization last updated their donors list on 3rd May 2020.
