India: Maldives’ Largest Market by 2021

According to the forecast, if the slow growth of Chinese market continues, India will surpass China to become the largest market for Maldives tourism industry.

In the first quarter or 2019, China, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom and India were the top 5 tourism markets. India maintained its position at the fifth, but posted an outstanding increase of 85.5% in its arrivals to record 36,053 tourists.

Indian market has been one of the fastest growing markets to the Maldives, climbing 7.5% in shares. With the virus outbreak, China outbound tourism has declined significantly and it is highly expected that the market will fall behind India by the end of 2020.

Maldives has welcomed a number of high profile Bollywood celebrities like Shahrukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty and most recently Bipasha Basu, Sarah Ali Khan and Parineeti Chopra, gaining huge attention from the media.
