During Ramadan, a time theres high demand for processed tuna, people have become more aware of what’s called a ‘tuna pouch’. This was introduced by Horizon Fisheries Private Limited, a processor of fish and fishery products based in the Maldives, providing products for both the domestic and international market.
According to Hotelier Maldives, the pieces of tuna inside the pouch are smaller and mushier than in canned tuna as the pouch is soft-sided, providing no support. These vacuum- sealed soft pouches give off a fresher flavor and texture to the tuna with production done in brine, spring water or any selected oil.
Horizon Fisheries Pvt Ltd began operating in 2003, after taking the Maandhoo Fisheries Complex from the Maldivian Government. A brand new state-of-the-art cannery with 3000 tonnes cold storage and staff facilities were constructed.
Located on Laamu Atoll, Horizon Fisheries quickly became one of the leading tuna fish processing and marketing companies in the Maldives. It produces a range of canned tuna, as well as pouches and cooked loins. Horizon Fisheries is committed to leading the fisheries trade in the Maldives alongside promoting and delivering the highest quality sustainably caught tuna.
