"It will be a more affordable and a safer destination than before. Confidence is the key for a successful international tourism after the pandemic. That’s what Maldives will offer," read a statement by the Tourism Minister of Maldives Ali Waheed, who took part in the UNWTO webinar on the impact of COVID19 on International Tourism.
After highlighting the huge impact the pandemic has had on the Maldivian economy, Minister Ali Waheed stated that this is not the time for new taxes and to compromise safety. In order to minimize additional damage to international tourism and the global economy, borders and airports need to agree to have the minimum standard required to continue travel with confidence in airlines, airports and destinations.
The Minister further announces that the Maldives is preparing to open borders and shores on July. “We are working on guidelines to ensure that our guests once again feel the Sunny Side of Life in here.”
