A global review has shown that over the past 20 years, millions of sea turtles have been inadvertently snared by methods used in commercial fishing. In the US alone, some 4,600 sea turtles are killed by fishing nets and hooks each year.
This is because, once they get stuck in discarded fishing nets, they are trapped and the turtles get dragged through the water without access to the surface to breathe, which causes them to drown.
So it is very fortunate that Kaani Hotel's excursion team happened to spot a sea turtle in distress yesterday and were able to save it from the entanglement it had gotten itself into. Once they did, they immediately released it back into the ocean, and luckily, it seemed like the turtle did not sustain any injuries either.
