Recently, due to the severe issues brought up by the artists of the country, Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoon, held discussions with the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Economics. Minister Yumna Maumoon stated that she had an online meeting to discuss the concerns of Artists. ‘Minister Fayyaz (Economic Minister) assured me that there is already a loan scheme in place and a grant scheme will be announced soon.’
On 5th May, Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage published an announcement regarding the topic. In the announcement, it was stated that a loan scheme was already in place for employees adversely affected by the COVID19 pandemic and artists are also eligible for the loan scheme. However, a grant scheme will also be launched, which can be applied to by workers in various sectors.
Minister Yumna requested artists to report to http://Jobcenter.mv if their employment has been directly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Further, those who wish to apply to the grant scheme, which will be announced in the future, were asked to prepare the documents required. This includes written document regarding the workplace (contract/ reference letter) and documents that prove that the employee was given income (payment slip/ account statement).
