Lily Beach Pulls All Stops to Celebrate the Environment, the Oceans & Wellness This June

Tuesday 13th of June 2023

June is a month home to several global campaigns including World Environment Day, World Oceans Day and Global Wellness Day. At the property of Lily Beach Resort & Spa, each campaign was celebrated in full spirit with a jam-packed resort programme to engage, learn and fully immerse in the enthusiasm of these special days. School children from the neighbouring island of Dh. Kumburudhoo were invited to partake and enjoy the resort’s celebrations too.

To start off, Lily Beach kicked off World Environment Day with an island-wide clean-up and tree-planting initiative, aimed at increasing the island’s greenery and general health. Following this, the resort management paved way for an awareness raising and nurturing experience that would leave a lasting impact on both guests and staff of the island. This event also aligned with the core principles of the resort which have continued to form the essence of operations since its inception.

On World Ocean Day, Lily Beach organized a movie marathon for its cherished children and guests, spotlighting the significance of nature conservation in all its magnificence and glory. This experience proved to be a valuable catalyst in enlightening visitors about the extensive scope of assistance and contributions they can offer as individuals. Through this immersive initiative, guests were better informed on their ability to make an impactful contribution towards protecting the delicate environment.

As part of the festivities of the day, guests were invited on a guided walk and tour led by the resort’s experts to the ‘back-of-house’ areas. This experience was a great hit with children as they posed inquisitive questions about the intricacies of the sewage water system and the methods developed to treat and repurpose wastewater. Additionally, the children were also introduced to an immersive art class led by in-house artist Sirey. The class aspired to inspire children to harness the wonders of nature as a wellspring of artistic inspiration.

The school children were able to unlock their creative potential during the class and craft profound masterpieces that truly embody their individual imaginative capacities. Before concluding the session, the guests were gifted reusable water tumblers as an alternative to single-use plastic. Alongside these inspiring adventures, the resort also conducted a dedicated Reef Cleaning and Lagoon Clean-up initiative to preserve the breathtaking surroundings of the property as well as a resort clean-up on the island led by the enthusiastic team at Lily Beach.

Lily Beach ushered in Global Wellness Day on June 10th with a morning yoga class to awaken the body and mind, followed by Detox drinks and healthy snacks. A thrilling kayak race was hosted during the afternoon, which was well-received by the participants. The day continued on with children’s yoga, special healthy cooking class for guests and myriad of other health and wellness-infused activities curated for in-house guests. During the commemorations, Lily Beach also unveiled a unique collaboration with homegrown brand of the tasty Kombucha, Saibew which will be available at the resort all-year round for all guests and included in the generous Platinum Plan.

Through celebrating these global campaigns, Lily Beach hopes to reaffirm its commitment to Sustainability and Good Governance as the steward of the island of Huvahendhoo. The activities featured on all three days reflected this commitment but were also crafted as fun experiences, providing hands-on experience for guests in events such as the reef cleaning and lagoon clean-ups. This ultimately helps Lily Beach foster a sense of responsibility and empowerment among guests while safeguarding its natural resources.

The General Manager of Lily Beach, Laurent Driole remarked, “We firmly believe in the potential of the new generations to safeguard our ocean systems. Every one of us can make a difference, even through the smallest of daily actions.”
