Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has commenced two Air Traffic Control Centre license courses held from February 21 to April 17, 2023. This includes an Area Control Procedural Course (ICAO 055) and an Approach Control Procedural Course (ICAO 053). 12 participants are listed for the courses, with half the partakers enrolled in each course.
This is the first time MACL is conducting two ATC Rating training programs concurrently and aims to generate effective learning outcomes from both courses. The training in the courses will be facilitated by a team of international and local trainers who will provide high-quality instruction to participants.
MACL is tasked with the responsibility to provide air navigation services to all airports in the Maldives, both domestic and international. These courses are designed with the wider objective of strengthening and expanding its services to other parts of the country and complementing the company’s ongoing efforts. Therefore, these ATC Rating Trainings will be a significant steppingstone for MACL’s pursuit of industry excellence in the coming future.
In 2021, MACL inaugurated the first-ever Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower simulator in the Maldives at Velana International Airport (VIA). The simulator has played an integral role in training air traffic control officers for the job. Refresher training is mandated by regulation for all air traffic controllers even after receiving the ATC license. This ensures that they remain up to date with the skills and knowledge required of such officers.
