Makers Place Studio – The New Addition Of Sustainability By Soneva

With Maldives being one of the countries that always work towards having a green and healthy environment, it is safe to say that resorts play a huge role in achieving the carbon reduction goal we strive to achieve. Soneva is known to have many factors that play towards sustainability.

Yesterday, Soneva launched Makers Place’ – a carbon neutral recycling studio that transforms discarded aluminums and plastics from the soft drinks industry, into works of art. Adding to the list of waste reduction factors the brand successfully achieves. This studio was built in collaboration with the world-renowned British artist, Alexander James Hamilton, the owner of Distil Ennui Studio, who is famous for his work in sculpture, painting, photography, film, lighting and installation.

Within the first day itself, the Makers Place studio processed over 15,000 discarded aluminum cans alone, removing them from being a toxic waste to our fragile and vibrant ecosystem that surrounds our small country.

With this innovation in place, I hope it inspires all of us to work together to protect our fragile environment with the three R’s in place. Reuse, Recycle and Reduce.
