Maldives’ Agriculture- Training Programs

In order to provide knowledge to farmers in the most effective way, Ministry of Fisheries, Marine resources and Agriculture is carrying out various programs, including training to filed officers in islands.

The first program was a 6 months course held in India in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University with the help of Mohamed Umar Manik Foundation. Apart from theory and practical classes, the course was also rich in experience. Students learnt the difficulties faced and solutions using environmentally friendly ways. Although it was held in India, the course was tailored to mainly focus on difficulties faced in Maldives.

There were 6 participants from Haa Alif Kelaa, Haa Dhaal Nehlaidhoo, Raa Vaadhoo, Gaaf Alif Maamendhoo and Fuvamulah. Expenses were borne by Mohamed Umar Manik Foundation.

It is important to train people in the agricultural field. Maldives almost imports all food, including vegetables, fruits and grains, which contributes significantly to the money outflow.
