Maldives Hopes To Create The First Fully-Vaccinated Tourism Sector In The World

A designated campaign to fully inoculate the entire tourism industry workforce of the Maldives under the banner ‘I am Vaccinated’ was inaugurated today – an effort by the island nation heavily reliant on its tourism sector to uphold its economy to create the world’s first fully-vaccinated tourism sector. This is a joint effort by the Ministry of Tourism and Visit Maldives.

A special inaugural ceremony was held today at Hotel Jen, where the Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom launched the campaign.

Under the campaign, a special badge will be awarded to tourism industry workers who have received both doses if the vaccine whereas Visit Maldives will formulate a list of tourism establishment where all workers have completed their vaccination.

In addition to this, a microsite will be launched under the campaign which will be followed alongside social media activities. The microsite will display a counter displaying the number of tourist industry staff vaccination as well as information regarding registration for vaccination of employees and the latest HPA guidelines. The social media segment of the campaign will showcase images and videos of workers in the tourism industry with their badges – which is anticipated to advertise Maldives as a ‘safe haven’ across the world.

Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director of Visit Maldives Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed noted that travelers these days choose the safest deemed locations when choosing their holiday destinations right now where as the inoculation of a whole tourism industry would increase the faith of travelers in the Maldives as a safe haven. He further went on to highlight that as Maldives prepares to celebrate the golden jubilee of its tourism sector – the nation has experienced hard times due to the pandemic, but nevertheless Visit Maldives have worked hard to ensure than Maldives remained on the top of traveler’s mind during this period of time.

As of present, 99% of the tourism industry workers have received their first jab and around 8000 have received their second.
