The Maldives has once again claimed its spot as the world’s most popular long-haul honeymoon destination, according to new research from UK-based travel company Travelbag.
With an 83 percent global rise in searches for the perfect “romantic getaway,” Travelbag’s findings show the Maldives is the clear favorite for newlyweds planning their 2025 honeymoon.
Experts at Travelbag analyzed UK search volumes and booking trends from April 2024 to April 2025. The Maldives topped the list with an impressive 19,200 annual Google searches in the UK and a steady five percent rise in bookings.
Despite tough competition from other beautiful destinations like Bali, Seychelles, and Zanzibar, the Maldives maintained its top ranking. Travelbag’s data suggests its mix of natural beauty, privacy, and luxury keeps it at the top of honeymoon wish lists.
Other destinations also saw notable interest. Seychelles had 10,560 searches with a 50 percent booking increase, while Zanzibar recorded an 86 percent jump in bookings. Still, their overall search volumes did not come close to the Maldives.
Some emerging spots like Kyoto and Banff showed major growth in bookings—400 percent and 100 percent respectively—but their low search numbers reflect a more niche appeal.
Danny Hugill, Travelbag’s Maldives expert, offered his insight for honeymooners. “The Maldives is the ultimate honeymoon destination, offering a mix of luxury, seclusion, and natural beauty,” he said.
Hugill recommends couples visit between December and April to enjoy the best weather, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 31°C. “There’s plenty of sunshine and crystal-clear waters—perfect for relaxing on white-sand beaches and exploring vibrant coral reefs,” he added.
He also pointed out the variety of experiences available. “Relaxation and romance take centre stage here. You can enjoy day-diving trips or head out on a glass-bottomed kayak together,” Hugill said. “But if you’re looking for something more exciting, there are plenty of watersports available on the islands, including water skiing and parasailing. You could even try a Maldivian cooking class to take some culinary skills back home with you.”
With its strong appeal and consistent popularity, the Maldives continues to set the standard for romantic travel, confirming its position as the go-to honeymoon destination for couples in 2025 and beyond.
