Pullman Maldives Launches Aqua Week 2025 With Reef & Seagrass Discovery

Wednesday 18th of June 2025

Pullman Maldives Maamutaa is giving travellers a new reason to dive in with the launch of its Maamutaa House Reef — a colourful, lively reef just 100 meters from the resort’s shoreline. Easily accessible and rich in marine life, the reef allows guests to experience the magic of the Maldivian underwater world without the need for a boat ride.

The reef is home to green and hawksbill turtles, reef sharks, parrotfish, angelfish, and sometimes even eagle rays and octopuses. According to the resort’s in-house marine biologist, the reef is not only thriving but also very close to shore, making it ideal for all levels of snorkellers.

Guests begin their exploration by swimming through a healthy seagrass bed before reaching the reef’s drop-off, where colourful coral formations and marine life take centre stage. Thanks to the protective geography of the atoll and strong ocean currents, the reef remains in excellent condition.

To celebrate this natural asset, Pullman Maldives Maamutaa will host Aqua Week 2025 from July 13 to 20 — a weeklong event focused on underwater exploration and marine conservation. Aqua Week will also mark the launch of Phase 1 of the resort’s Seagrass Mapping & Awareness Project, a guest-inclusive initiative highlighting the importance of seagrass in marine biodiversity and climate health.

During Aqua Week, guests can join guided snorkeling tours to help collect visual data for the project, learning firsthand about the role of seagrass meadows as nurseries for sea life and as carbon sinks.

The event will feature several exciting collaborations:

Insta360 will host workshops to help guests capture 360-degree underwater content.

Edge K5 will offer smart underwater scooters for a more dynamic reef experience.

Certified mermaid Gloria Xue will lead mermaid classes, photoshoots, and shows at the resort’s Aqua Villa.

Beyond Aqua Week, the three-phase seagrass initiative will continue:

Phase 2 (August–September): Continued snorkeling tours and awareness sessions.

Phase 3 (October): A short documentary film showcasing the project’s outcomes.

This project reflects Pullman Maldives’ commitment to environmental responsibility, aligned with Green Globe certification standards.

Guests at the resort can also enjoy year-round marine activities including:

Expert-led snorkeling tours

Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) right from the beach

Night snorkeling with UV lights to reveal glowing marine life

Citizen science seagrass programs

Kids’ Ocean Explorers — an educational, fun program for young guests

Whether you’re a diver, snorkeller, or first-time explorer, Pullman Maldives Maamutaa makes it easy to experience the Indian Ocean’s wonders — responsibly, memorably, and just steps from your villa.
