Maldivian, the country’s national airline, has transported 5000 kilograms of medical supplies into the Maldives from Dubai. This was part of the airline’s ongoing efforts to import cargo and necessary medicines from various cities across the world including Trivandrum and Chennai of India, Thailand and Dubai, to aid in transporting essential supplies and goods during this global pandemic.
Maldivian cargo freighter has previously brought in various supplies from Bangkok, Thailand and Dubai while prior to that, the airline had delivered 10 tons of cargo from Sri Lanka. As the country is currently in a 14 days lockdown, Maldivian has announced the halt of all domestic operations. The airline will be continuing its domestic operation with the lift.
The airline has also helped countries by evacuating nationals stranded during this situation. On 14th April, Maldivian evacuated 159 Maldivians from Bangalore, and Cochin in India while on 16th April, a total of 55 Thai nationals were evacuated. Care packages to Maldivians were also being sent by flights to various countries.
