At Kurumba Maldives, the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) held its 32nd Annual General Meeting. This year's AGM saw participation from 96 members in total. The Ministers of Tourism, Environment, Climate Change, and Technology, as well as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation, Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed, all attended this year's AGM. Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, the Minister of Tourism, and Hon. Aminath Shauna, the Minister of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology, all made remarks.
In addition, Mr. Abdulla Ibrahim, Vice-President of the National Boating Association of the Maldives (NBAM), Mr. Ismail Hameed, President of the National Boating Association of the Maldives (NBAM), Mr. Raaif Shaaz Waleed, Executive Board Member of the National Hotels and Guesthouses Association of the Maldives (NHGAM), and Mr. Mohamed Yameen, Executive Board Member of the National (NHGAM) all made their attend.
The official opening remarks for the AGM were made by the Chairman of MATI, Mr. Mohamed Umar Maniku, who was followed by a statement from Mr. Ahmed Nazeer, the Secretary General of MATI. The official business of the AGM was overseen by Mr. Ahmed Nazeer. A video presentation highlighting MATI's accomplishments for the year 2021 was shown during the proceedings, along with the passing and adoption of the 31st AGM minutes, the presentation of the annual report and financial reports for 2021, the adoption of the budget for 2022, and the appointment of auditors for 2022. Additionally, the board members for the academic year 2022–2023 were selected.
Due to the fact that this year marks the Golden Jubilee of Tourism, MATI also displayed a video highlighting the celebrations the organization spearheaded for the year. They included the Chevening and Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) Scholarships collaboration, the publication of two coffee table books titled "50 Years of Tourism in Maldives - the Pioneers, People, and Policies that Shaped the Industry" by Dr. Simad Saeed and "Maldivian Resort Architecture - 50 Years of Island Resorts" by Mr. Mauroof Jameel, set to be released during the Gala Dinner held on the 40th Anniversary of MATI on August.
