The Maldives has seen a steady increase in tourist arrivals from Southeast Asia over the years, making it a viable market with excellent airline connectivity. In 2019, the Maldives welcomed a total of 87,636 tourists from Southeast Asia.
Despite the travel restrictions, MMPRC is promoting the destination in the Southeast Asian market to ensure that the Maldives remains a top-of-mind destination for travelers and that the Maldives is the most preferred destination for Southeast Asian travelers once borders are reopened for leisure travel and restrictions are lifted.
