Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) is representing Maldives at the World Travel Market (WTM) London together with 173 participants. Held from the 7th-9th of November 2022 at ExCel London, the Maldivian delegation is headed by the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of MMPRC, Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed.
Ranked among the forefront global events in the travel industry, the WTM London provides a great platform for industry professionals to meet and conduct business dealings. Boasting a huge industry network and unrivalled global reach, the 3-day in-person event opens doors to networking and connecting and strengthening existing business ties with industry delegates and the international media.
MMPRC’s aim for this year’s WTM London is to meet the travel trade from the UK and global partners and inform them about the latest updates on the Maldives and our tourism products. Alongside industry partners, MMPRC is showcasing the various products and segments available at the destination, highlighting on the unique aspects, activities and experiences offered in the Sunny Side of Life.
As for industry partners, the participation allows them to promote their individual products and properties, form new business leads and connect with the UK and global travel trade to determine sentiments of consumers towards the destination. Additionally, MMPRC will also be hosting a 3-day city roadshow in London, Manchester and Newcastle from the 9th-11th of November 2022.
This year’s participation is especially memorable as it coincides with the Golden Jubilee Year of Tourism in the Maldives. As such Maldives shines at a 420 sqm double-decker dedicated stand, where the delegation is working towards maintaining destination presence in the UK market through a myriad of activities spanning three days of the fair.
A special 360 video booth is set up at the stand this time, giving visitors the chance to immerse in the beauty of Maldives through a panoramic experience. Other activities featured include distributing press packs, launching of 2023 destination guide, and initiating a new venture by MMPRC for 2023 as part of global marketing efforts.
Global media officials are also given the latest updates on the destination and the chance to have in-person interviews with CEO & MD Thoyyib. Moreover, a designated area in the stand is reserved to host presentations through which the team sheds light on its ‘Redefining MICE’ concept, unique to the Maldives. The Minister of Tourism of the Maldives and other government officials are also partaking in the WTM London 2022.
A highlight of the activities is the ‘Maldives Media Meet’, commemorating 50 years of tourism in the country. To be held on 9th November, speakers at the event comprise Mr. Hussain Afeef- a pioneer of Maldives’ Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom- minister of Tourism, Dr. Farah Faizal- High Commissioner of the Maldives to the Uk and Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed- CEO & MD of MMPRC.
A traditional market for the Maldives, the UK currently is ranked as the 3rd top source market for the Maldives as of 2nd November 2022. With 147,535 visitors so far into the year, the market share stands at 10.9%.
