The HA. Hoarafushi airport development project, which will allow for easier travel to the northern most parts of Maldives, is moving forward, with 83% project progress. According to MTCC, at the moment, delivery of asphalt and other materials needed for asphalt works are underway, and asphalt works are ready to begin.
The Airport construction work involves construction of a 1200 m runway, 8,635m² of apron and taxiway, service roads at air and land side in front of terminal, 9,473m² of parking area, 1,718m² of fire access road and a 720m of airport security and beach fence area.
842,200 cubic meters of dredging and reclamation project work was completed in August 2019. A 1,120 meters of revetment was also completed in March 2020. Overall, MTCC reveals that the scope of the airport project will be completed by end of September this year.
On 31st March 2020, the HA. Hoarafushi airport development project was inaugurated by the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The Transport Ministry and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) signed the project agreement on March 25th.
