Hotels in New Mexico are allowed to remain open, even during the coronavirus threat. However, hotels can’t exceed 50% occupancy, under state restrictions due to spreading of coronavirus or COVID 19. This order passed to prevent the spread of the virus.
All non-essential businesses that are not related to industries were ordered to close, which led to layoffs of workers at hotels, spas, casinos, breweries, and restaurants. The U.S Department of Labor said last week more than 17,000 people in the state applied for unemployment insurance — an 18-fold increase from the previous week.
As of 30th March, 24 coronavirus patients were still hospitalized in New Mexico and had announced two more deaths and 44 additional confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, bringing the number of confirmed cases in New Mexico to 281. Currently, total cases in United States are 164,266 and 3,170 deaths.
The state’s first coronavirus death happened last week in Artesia, where a man in his 70s died before a positive test result came back from a state lab. Meanwhile, 26 New Mexicans who were tested positive for the disease have recovered, according to the state Department of Health.
