No Pandemic Can Stop Maldives From Making A Come Back In Tourism

December 27th, 2021 marks as a day of celebrations as Maldives reaches over 1.3 million tourist arrivals, making the tourism industry thrive despite the on-going pandemic. Thank you’s are in line for the dedicated front-line workers, government agencies and industry partners for the hard work they did to achieve this goal.

The 1.3 millionth tourist, who was travelling with his spouse and two children, was surprised with a ceremony at Velana International Airport. The lucky winner, Constantin Stelian Emil from Romania was welcomed by the CEO and Managing Director of MMPRC, Thoyyib Mohamed and other officials from Tourism Ministry, Immigration and MACL.

Sharing his excitement on reaching the goal despite the hard times of the global pandemic, Thoyyib showered the industry partners and health care officials with thank you’s and congratulations as the celebrations continue. He went on to thank the consistent and courageous efforts of all front-line workers, the government, ministries, MMPRC, other stakeholders, NGO’s and associations.

Furthermore, Thoyyib also shared MMPRC & Visit Maldives’ plans for 2022, in hopes to bring even greater achievements as the country moves forward towards success.

Next year is also a special year to visit the Maldives, as the country celebrates its Golden Jubilee of tourism, with plans to hold fresh and exciting activities throughout the year. MMPRC has approximately 60 in-person events planned, including 17 fairs, roadshows, and events in the first quarter of 2022 alone.
