The bright new star resort, Nova Maldives is bringing a suite of eco-inspired activities and events to the resort to celebrate this year’s World Ocean Day. Falling on June 8th, the ocean-centric agenda will focus on fostering interest and awareness among both guests and team members through engaging talks about marine life and by conducting a series of sustainable initiatives.
The celebratory festivities will begin with an eco-conscious lagoon and house reef clean-up, where guests will collect any plastic and debris around the tropical island for recycling. Following this, responsible travellers can attend an awareness-raising session led by the Co-founder of Miyaru, Hamna Hussain.
During the session, she will provide valuable insight into the new non-profit organization working at the intersection of humans and sharks. The Miyaru program is dedicated to the research and conservation of the understudied, predatory shark populations of the Maldives. As part of the program, Hamna will spotlight the various environmental issues they face and share fascinating facts about the Maldives’ diverse ecosystem and mesmerizing underwater world.
In addition to this, guests are also invited to join Nova’s coral adoption program, where coral restoration and rehabilitation will be highlighted along with environmental threats faced by the archipelago. Adding to this, guests will also have the rare opportunity to adopt a coral by planting one around the stunning house reef, sealing their eco-friendly travels in a special way.
South Ari Atoll, where Nova Maldives is located, is a prominent hotspot for manta rays and whale sharks. As part of its World Oceans Day itinerary, Nova will be taking guests on a whale shark excursion on the waters of South Ari Atoll, where they will have the chance to swim alongside the spotted giants of the ocean. This experience will allow guests to learn about the gentle giant’s dynamics and conservation and the need to preserve them.
Last but not least, a unique ocean art competition will take place at the resort led by a local talented artist. This offers guests the creative space to unleash their artistic capabilities and capture their own version of the breathtaking beauty of the Maldivian marine life. To top it off, Nova Maldives will also conduct a quiz competition to put to test guests’ knowledge of the ocean life with the winner taking home a prize.
Nova’s commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible tourism enables it to safeguard the astounding natural beauty of the island for generations to come. The soulful island adheres to the promise of ever-improving its efforts to reduce the environmental footprint and use mindfulness to keep sustainability at the core of everything Nova Maldives does.
