Maldives will be hosting a series of online discussion forums to explore ways to market the Maldives tourism amidst the coronavirus pandemic. The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) informed that discussion forums will be held in small groups amongst tourism industry marketeers in the coming days.
“The objective of the Tourism Industry Marketeers Forum is to share ideas on overcoming challenges faced by the industry due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. Also, to gather industry expertise and opinions in marketing the destination and attempt to send out mutual destination messages,” announced MMPRC.
“We look forward to your valued participation and contribution to the Tourism Industry Marketeers Forum.” The government body responsible for marketing the destination said that the details of the forum will be announced later.
The coronavirus pandemic took a huge toll on the Maldives economy, causing large unemployment, business failures and temporary closures. Tourism industry is one of the biggest industries affected by the outbreak with tourist arrivals having a year-over-year decline of 22.8 per cent in the first 10 days of March.
