On 29th April, Ministry of Education made an announcement regarding the GCE O levels, IGCSE and SSE examinations for the Grade 10 students of 2020 during the COVID19 pandemic. The Ministry reveals that the examinations will not be held on the fixed dates as it seems impossible for students to cover the curriculum before the examinations.
Great changes have been made to the education system in the Maldives, as well as countries around the globe, due to the global pandemic. The Ministry states that while making the decisions, priority was given to reduce the adverse impact on the students. Further, there has been no additional changes to the alterations brought to A Level examinations done by Grade 11 and 12 students.
Educational institutions have been temporarily closed down in the country since March, when the first cases started confirming. During the early days of the closure, schools, colleges and universities carried out online classes. However, these have also been stopped by majority of institutions due to the deteriorating situation in the country. When the schools will start operating is unknown.
