‘Isolation/Quarantine facilities in the North & South of the country will be activated tonight & tomorrow,’ announced Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed on 29th April. The Minister has stated that the work is ongoing to establish quarantine facilities in the North and South of the Maldives.
A resort in each region will be used as a quarantine facility: Hideaway Island Resort in Haa Alif atoll in the north and Here’there’ Resort in southernmost Addu atoll. This decision is followed by the rising numbers of positive cases in the atolls. The most number of people have tested positive in Sh. Narudhoo, while positive cases have also been identified in Milandhoo Island of the same atoll, Ha. Uligam and K. Thulusdhoo.
Hideaway island Resort has a capacity of 100 beds while Here’there has 270 rooms. Those who test positive for COVID19 are being treated at Farukolhufushi, AA Velidhoo resort and Dharumavantha Hospital. The total number of people who have tested positive for the illness has now reached 280 in the Maldives, and one death has been confirmed.
