Biggest Russian charter airline Azur Air has launched charter service to the Maldives. Yesterday afternoon, the first Azur Air charter flight to the Maldives landed at the country’s main Velana International Airport. The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft was carrying some 400 tourists from Russia and CIS countries.
Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Thoyyib Mohamed together with officials from the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and Resort Life Maldives welcomed the crew and passengers of the flight. Resort life is a local travel agency that which operates the charter in collaboration with Anex Tour, second largest tour operator in Russia.
Resort Life travel agency’s CEO Mohamed Shaaz Waleed says that the agency risked 2.3 million dollars for this. Talking about the future plans of Resort Life, Mohamed Shaaz states “at the end of 2020, we will expand to 1 flight in every 10 days. We will also start Ukraine flight next year. I hope the resorts and government in Maldives increases support for local travel agencies as it is an industry with high potential.”
