On 23rd April, MATATO and NBAM announced that both associations, in cooperation with the Malé Aerated Water Company (Coca-Cola), are organizing to provide food for both locals and expatriates who have been taken under state care since the lockdown was declared. Under this initiative, food for 500 individuals will be arranged for the next 30 days through Salsa Catering in Malé.
Since then, Salsa Royal has consistently been part of the effort. About 15 dedicated employees of Salsa Royal work in two shifts, cooking three meals a day prior to Ramadan, and twice daily during Ramadan providing meals for Iftar and Suhoor. Those who are being provided food for are sheltered by the Maldivian Red Crescent and the government in various locations.
As of 5th May, over 9000 meal packages have been delivered thus far and when providing this humble service, the needy were not discriminated based on nationality. During a time of crisis, regardless of the challenges faced, Salsa Royal and the associations that are part of this initiative, are supporting the community and ensuring that nobody starves throughout this Ramadan.
