HPA’s COVID-19 Case Updates this morning confirmed an additional 6 cases of COVID-19 infection in Maldives: 1 Bangladeshi and 5 Maldivians. This totaled the number of cases to 557. The country has also record its second COVID19 related death on 5th May.
During the early hours today, HPA announced that a Bangladeshi national, who was also tested positive for COVID19, has been transferred to IGMH after a tonic-clonic seizure is in critical condition. A press conference was held this afternoon to address the situation, during which the details were given by IGMH.
Regarding the death of 22 year old Bangladeshi national, IGMH stated that they did not get much time to save the patient’s life. The hospital’s Respiratory Specialist Dr. Moosa Hussein said that they did everything possible to save him, but a lot of time had passed before the patient arrived at the hospital.
It was also revealed that the patient was brought to IMGH from Senahiya Hospital’s Flu Clinic after getting a seizure. The cause of death, as stated by IGMH’s Internal Medicine Specialist, was the high damage to the brain. The deceased was buried in Hulhumale by MNDF troops.
With this death, the country records two deaths relating to COVID19. According to HPA’s surveillance updates as of 21:30, 04 May, there were 14 new cases and a total of 545 confirmed cases.1759 people were in quarantine and 458 in isolation.
