The Travel + Leisure’s Global Vision Awards honors individuals, companies and organizations making meaningful strides in responsible travel and sustainable living every year. An esteemed panel of experts across the travel, hospitality, and sustainability industries submit nominations, which were then narrowed to a select list of finalists vetted by Travel + Leisure editors to compile a final list of 30 honorees.
This year, Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas was honored as a group its dedication to sustainability, conservation, and ethical environmental practices. In addition to thought leadership, the changemakers are also proactively protecting communities and environments and inspiring their industry colleagues and travelers to do their part.
CEO of Six Senses, Neil Jacobs said, ‘I am fortunate to have found a professional path that is meaningful personally, and a company that is proactive and engaged in sustainability as an integral part of its DNA. I work with an extraordinary leadership team of experts who are passionate about what they do and who feel exactly the same way.’
The group has been celebrating community and environmental ethos that shines through each location of their hotel chain across the globe. There’s no better designer than nature, and the group believes that all of us have a duty to respect it. But who says sustainable can’t be sumptuous? Or travel can’t be purposeful? In the world of Six Senses, it can.
“We want to go beyond protection and act as a regenerative business, adding value to local stakeholders and giving back more than we take,” says Jeff Smith, Vice President of Sustainability. “I’m happy to report that despite the pandemic, our sustainability initiatives are all on track, including Zero Waste, Plastic Free 2022, Earth Lab, Supplier Engagement, and localized projects supporting healthy ecosystems and communities.”
At Six Senses Laamu, a number of initiatives invest in making the world a better place, starting from home. By being responsible today, we ensure that the unique environments, cultures and experiences we share with our guests will be experienced for generations to come. The team not only respect guests and hosts, but also the local communities and ecosystems around us too.
At the Earth Lab, Six Senses Laamu’s hub for self-sufficiency and zero waste, the resort aims to produce more onsite and reduce emissions from long-distance transport. In line with the group-wide effort of becoming Plastic Free by 2022, the resort has been working with neighboring communities in making them aware of the fragile nature around us and advocating on sustainable practices for the future. Moreover, The Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI) brings together the greatest minds in marine conservation to find innovative solutions for Laamu’s most pressing issues.
‘Even though our experiences are individual, what we all know is that wellness, connection, nature, sustainability, quality of life, love and collective consciousness have suddenly become more and more important. Now is the time for us to stay honest and engaged.’ commented The brand’s Wellness Pioneer Anna Bjurstam.
