The eco-friendly resort brand, Soneva has recently announced that Padel Tennis will now be included in the unforgettable experiences awaiting guests at Soneva Jani- the Noonu Atoll property of Soneva and Soneva Fushi in Baa Atoll.
Originating from Mexico in the late 60s, the sport was founded by an individual named Enrique Corcuera. In recent times, Padel Tennis has taken the world by storm with many celebrities even hopping on the trend. Now guests staying in Soneva Jani and Soneva Fushi can experience the sport in a new way, amidst the lush green foliage of nature enwreathing them in the scenic island destination of Maldives.
Padel has some clear similarities and differences with its sister sport, Tennis. Even though, Padel is also played in doubles the size of a Padel court is just one third of a regular tennis court. Moreover, the racquets used in Padel are distinctly different from that of tennis although, points are scored in the same way. The most significant contrast between the sports might be that in Padel, the height of the ball must be served at or below the waist level.
The newly established Padel courts will come fully equipped and invites guests of all ages to break a sweat in the adrenaline pumping sport. Available for private and group lessons as well as friendly games, Soneva is launching the sport in style! Making a guest appearance this holiday season is Captain of Sweden’s men’s national Padel team, Jonas Bjorkman in Soneva Fushi. He would be offering guests the highly-coveted private tennis sessions and Padel coaching on the new courts during the festive period.
Jonas Bjorkman was the former World No. 4 singles tennis player and the No.1 double tennis player and is among the few who have managed to win all four Grand Slam events. He would be making an appearance in Soneva under the Soneva Stars programme.
