The State Trading Organization (STO) has announced that the largest state-owned enterprise plans to purchase agricultural products directly from farmers through an AgriCenter, which is being set-up to facilitate direct sale of purchase by the farmers.
Local farmers that are interested to sell their products to STO are required to fill up registrations which will be made available through STO’s website and through their outlets and pharmacies. This will form an agreement according to which sales transactions will take place.
STO states its collection points will only receive produce in good condition, adding it will reject damaged produce. Farmers will receive notification of the sale via sms, and they will receive the payment within 2 working days.
This will facilitate the agricultural industry of the country during a time when the economy is facing a downturn. STO’s Managing Director Hussain Amr added the corporation was equipped and ready to purchase local produce directly from the farmers.
