The UNWTO Global Summit on Community-based Tourism in 2022, co-organized by UNWTO and the Maldives Ministry of Tourism, is part of a special celebration of the Maldives as it marks the country's 50th anniversary of tourism.
The summit provided a forum for global tourism leaders to discuss the role of community-based tourism in achieving sustainable development goals, as well as the challenges it poses, from the perspectives of various actors outside the tourism industry.
From June 15th to 16th, the UNWTO Global Summit had finally taken place at Crossroads Maldives and Paradise Island Resort and Spa. The summit was divided into three parts: Theme of the UNWTO Global Summit on Community-Based Tourism UNWTO Global Summit on Community Based Tourism – Thematic Session 1: Gastronomy Tourism Thematic Session 2: Agritourism and the UNWTO Global Summit on Community-Based Tourism The third session focused on community-based tourism.
The UNWTO Ministerial Round-table on Tourism Sustainability through Innovation and Digitization in Asia Pacific was also held at Crossroads Maldives prior to the Global Summit on 14 June. During the summit, Minister of Tourism, Dr.Abdulla Mausoom thanked the Organization for hosting such a remarkable event during the year the Maldives is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary in the tourism industry.
