The ‘mRNA-1273’ could be the cure to coronavirus and the end to long hunt to a vaccine. The vaccine, if successful, will hopefully prime the body's own immune system to fight off the real infection.
First tested on animals, the vaccine has “shown promise,” and this is the first trial to examine it in humans, according to the National Institutes of Health. It was developed by NIAID scientists and their collaborators at the biotechnology company Moderna, Inc., based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The volunteers, on who the vaccine was tested, stated that the shots were no more painful than an ordinary season flu vaccine. Some will get higher dosages than others to test how strong the dose should be. They will be checked for side effects and have their blood tested to determine whether the vaccine is revving up their immune systems
However, even if the clinical trial is successful, the COVID-19 vaccine will not be available for the next 12-18 months.
