The Manta Trust Kids’ Club is a website where the little marine enthusiasts can participate in different activities that enhances their knowledge about the marine life and manta rays. Every week, there are new activities waiting for them.
Manta rays are giants of their kind. Despite their huge size, they are incredibly gentle and friendly. Manta rays do have very small teeth but they don’t use them for feeding. Instead, manta rays are what we call ‘filter-feeders’. This means they swim around with their mouth wide open gobbling up lots of tiny bits of food called plankton. During Week 1, the kids helped Marvin the Manta Ray navigate through this maze to find his dinner.
After a comic book challenge and treasure hunt in Week 2 and 3, Marvin the Manta Ray has returned to Hanifaru Bay, Maldives. Hanifaru Bay is an amazing place where hundreds of manta rays – and sometimes a whale shark or two - gather together to feast on plankton during the manta season.
Formed in 2011, the Manta Trust is a UK registered charity that aims for a sustainable future for the oceans, where manta rays and their relatives thrive in healthy, diverse marine ecosystems. Our team is comprised of a diverse group of researchers, scientists, conservationists, educators and media experts; working together to share and promote knowledge and expertise.
