Yesterday, the world-class hotelier, Radisson Hotel Group announced that they have received confirmation and validation of its near-term Science Based Targets (SBTs) in line with their commitment to go Net-Zero by 2050.
The authentication was provided by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) which comprises of a partnership between professionals like Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and the United Nations Global Compact. The aim of this partnership is to direct ambitious climate action in businesses. Through this authentication, Radisson Hotel Group is now positioned amidst the top companies in the world who have aligned with the COP climate goals and marked their carbon reduction targets in accordance to science.
In the past decade, the hotel group has put immense efforts in the sustainability front and has managed to achieve energy efficiency gains of 30%. Currently, the group is investing into certifying more hotels of its chain with the green building certificates. As of 2021, the Radisson Group has successfully reduced their carbon emissions by 22% per sqm while the water footprint was reduced by 23% per sqm compared to 2019.
In addition to this, the group has also re-defined its Build Planet guidelines with hotels built and refurbished while adhering to sustainable conditions. From the preliminary assessment to the operations, these sustainable conditions will be fully met and include the use of sustainable materials and efficient utilization of resources.
As per the Think Planet pillar of the company’s Responsible Business, Radisson Blu Resort Maldives is stepping up its efforts to save the environment. The resort has launched numerous initiatives in the island such as the installation of a water bottling plant and the linen and towel reuse programs. Through these, the group is helping to eliminate single-use plastic in the resort as well as conserving the natural resources of the destination.
Earlier in 2022, Radisson Hotel Group has also declared its support to initiatives expediting Responsible Tourism such as the implementation of the cross-industry Pathway to Net Positive Hospitality and Hotel Sustainability Basics initiative.
