The Baa Atoll Big Five Safari is setting sail and Vakkaru Maldives invites all guests to take part in the adventure. Reflecting on the priciples of Africa’s land-based safaris, Vakkaru has taken the best elements from this activity and incorporated it to include our heavenly underwater world where all the Maldivian magic actually takes place.

Deemed a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve 10 years ago, the Baa Atoll is home to an incredible collection of diverse and spectacular sea life. Nestled at the heart of this biodiversity, Vakkaru Maldives has revealed yet another first-ever adventure for guests looking to delve into a range of special events and privileges as part of its 50 Shades of Blue celebration.

Organized by the Vakkaru Maldives dive-centre team, the special trips will allow an exclusive insight into the mesmerizing world of the underwater wonders. It can also be customized to include a range of authentic Maldivian moments such as dolphin watching, castaway sandbank detours, private picnics during sundowners, and so much more. Vakkaru’s enthusiastic F&B team can arrange a special celebratory Big Five Feast for any parties who witness all five on one trip!

The Baa Atoll Big Five

Manta Rays: Ethereal creatures with wingspans of up to 9 metres, manta rays are regularly seen at Hanifaru Bay near Vakkaru from May to November each year.

Turtles: Hawksbills and green turtles are found in Baa Atoll year round and sightings are almost guaranteed in Turtle Reef, about 15 minutes from Vakkaru by boat.

Dolphins: Spinner and bottlenose dolphins are also regularly spotted on Vakkaru’s dolphinwatching cruises, with their playful antics and acrobatic jumps making them a particular favourite with children.
