Ministry of Tourism has regulated all tourist facilities to submit required information to the dedicated portal ‘Tourism Information Management System’. This was announced in a statement by the Ministry on 1st June.
The Ministry informs that tourist establishments that are not registered in the portal shall register within the following three months. Under this regulation, information required to be submitted includes information on the employees and data required to develop the sector. All information on the portal will be published by the Ministry as a whole.
Those resorts and facilities that do not follow the regulations will be subjected to fines. On the first time a facility fails to follow the regulation, a fine of MVR 100 per bed will be charged while for the second and third time MVR 250 and MVR 500 will be charged per bed. Further, if this occurs three consecutive times, the fine will be MVR 1000 per bed.
Although the fines will be observed by Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), the Ministry of Tourism has the authority to hold the license for a particular period of time.
