Updated Travel Guidelines To The Maldives For Tourists Arriving From India

Due to rapid rise of Covid-19 cases in India, many nations ceased travel to the country as the situation continues to deteriorate. It has been reported that some hospitals are so crammed that they facing shortages of oxygen due to which patients in critical conditions are dying. Maharashtra, one of the most populous states in the country and home to Mumbai, one of the biggest cities in the country is the worst-hit.

India confirmed a total of 3,15,660 cases and 2,091 deaths in a single day on April 21, 2021. No country has yet recorded more cases in a single day.

While India remains as the top tourist market to the Maldives at present, authorities are taking control measures for tourists travelling to and from India. Accordingly, tourists arriving from India will now be required to produce a negative PCR test result from a sample obtained at least 96 hours prior to departure – also effective for those arriving in the Maldives after a 24-hour or more transit in India.

Effectively of 27th April, Indian tourists and other tourists who have transited in India for more than 24 hours prior to their arrival in the Maldives would not be allowed to check in to hotels and guesthouses in residential islands. However, this rule will not be applicable to hose already checked in who will be allowed to stay at such facilities for the duration they made their bookings for.

In addition to this, Indian tourists and other tourists who have transited in India for more than 24 hours prior to their arrival in the Maldives will also be required to undergo a PCR test prior to departure from Maldives.

Tourist arrivals from India have begun to slowly drop since the situation in the country worsened. Daily tourist arrivals from India have dropped from 800 to 600.
