Velassaru Maldives Celebrates International Chef Day with Heartwarming Community Event

In a heartwarming celebration of International Chef Day, Velassaru Maldives recently hosted a special event at Fiyavathi Orphanage in Hulhumalé. This initiative, organized in partnership with Universal Resorts Management, underscores the resort’s commitment to community engagement and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The event aimed to give back to the local community, focusing on healthy eating and interactive culinary experiences for the 70 children aged 2 to 16 who live at the orphanage. Leading the initiative were Velassaru Maldives General Manager, Mr. Denys Hordiienko, Executive Chef Vincent, and a dedicated team of chefs, along with the Welfare Committee.
Engaging Culinary Activities
The day kicked off with professional international chefs from Velassaru Maldives guiding the children in an interactive cooking session. Representing Southeast Asia’s culinary talent, these chefs led live cooking demonstrations, teaching basic culinary skills while introducing the children to nutritious food choices. A food hygiene session was also conducted, emphasizing the importance of clean food practices for both the children and the orphanage’s canteen staff.
A buffet-style lunch featuring a variety of international dishes highlighted the day. The menu catered to the children’s tastes while ensuring nutritional balance. The excitement peaked during a cake-cutting ceremony to commemorate International Chef Day, followed by creative workshops in fruit carving and plate decoration. These activities not only made healthy eating enjoyable but also fostered creativity and teamwork among the children.
Donations to Support the Orphanage
In addition to the engaging culinary activities, Velassaru Maldives made generous donations to Fiyavathi Orphanage, providing essential items such as televisions, computer systems, and recreational equipment, including futsal balls and basketball nets. These contributions reflect the resort's ongoing commitment to enhancing both educational and recreational opportunities for the children.
