Vijay Kumar Steps In As General Manager Of The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort

The wellness-centric property of The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort has announced the appointment of Vijay Kumar as their new General Manager. Familiar with the Maldivian hospitality industry, Vijay’s previous posting has been as Director of Finance at W Maldives and Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa. He brings a wealth of valuable experience to the role backed by his illustrious career in hospitality operations and management for more than 15 years.

Well-recognized as a passionate, hands-on and strategic leader, Vijay has served in various positions at different Marriott International hotels. He has helmed the Finance function in hotels across the world from India and Singapore to Malaysia and Maldives and has successfully led four successful hotel openings. In 2018, Vijay shifted from Finance to Operations and took on the role of Hotel Manager at The Andaman- a Luxury Collection Resort in Langkawi, Under his leadership, he drove many intriguing initiatives at the hotel and added numerous accolades to the name.

Speaking on his appointment, Vijay comments “Being a strong advocate of a balanced lifestyle personally, I am excited to come on board this wellness oasis, The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort, in my first role as a General Manager and lead a team that strives to create experiences that help guests become the best version of themselves while there are on vacation.”

Reflecting on his move to hotel operations, Vijay remarked “Operations has excited me since the beginning of my career however since my core strength was in finance, I grew various ranks in finance and there came an opportunity at The Andaman A Luxury Collection Resort in Langkawi, to head hotel operations and I grabbed it with a learning spirit. Over time I have come to enjoy operations much more than my core role of number crunching.”

During his free time, Vijay enjoys reading extensively and displaying his culinary skills and exotic concoctions to his family. Fond of ancient history and art, he loves to travel and explore places with historical significance.
