Visit Maldives Continues Participation in Travel Meet Asia Series with South East Asia Event

Thursday 25th of February 2021

Visit Maldives, in association with 7 partner exhibitors, have participated in Travel Meet Asia – South East Asia event. The ongoing South East Asia event is the second part of a four-part virtual travel roadshow organized by ITB Asia.

The Travel Meet Asia series of B2B virtual events bring forth opportunities for stakeholders of the industry to unlock key potentials in specific source markets or regions. Travel Meet Asia series focusing on different regions of the Asian continent will be a virtual travel roadshow throughout the year. This includes South Asia, Southeast Asia, Mice & Corporate, and Northeast Asia.

This two-day event, which would be live from 24th to 25th February 2021, offers exclusive networking opportunity with five key South-East Asian outbound markets: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Visit Maldives has previously participated in the South Asian rendition of the series.

Visit Maldives aims to provide information about the well-established precautionary standards within the Maldives, the natural beauty of our island-nation, and the unique experiences available in Maldivian establishments during the event. This will be an additional effort to the active promotions designed to boost the visibility in this Southeast Asian region by Visit Maldives through online, social media and digital marketing campaigns.

Other large-scaled joint marketing campaigns of Visit Maldives with prominent names in the industry focused on the South Eastern Region include the collab with TripAdvisor promoting the stringent safety measures undertaken in the Maldives in relation to COVID-19, and ensuring Maldives to be a safe haven.

In 2019, 87,636 tourists arrived to the Maldives from the South East Asian region. Post COVID19, the numbers were immensely affected by the travel restrictions in place, and dropped to 12,746 arrivals from the market in 2020. However, individuals from the region continuously showcase their interest to travel to the Maldives upon ease-down measures being implemented within the region.

As such, the goal of slowly, but surely reaching pre-pandemic arrival numbers from South East Asia shows consistent potential.
