On 16th April, Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) announced that they will be continuing their waste collection services during the lockdown period, which has been extended for another 24 hours. This follows the statement by WAMCO yesterday to temporarily stop their services as the very first local case is confirmed positive in the country.
The company has decided to collect the waste from households from 12pm to 2pm and from businesses 9am to 1pm every day. WAMCO instructs all households to bring the waste down during this period. However, only common waste materials will be collected and no additional type of waste is to be taken by WAMCO.
People with COVID19 symptoms, who are in isolation at homes, have been instructed not to bring the waste themselves. WAMCO will be sending a special team to those houses for safety purposes. In a press conference held today, WAMCO Managing Director states that workers have been given necessary safety equipment and arrangements have been made to provide continuous WAMCO services.
The public is advised to reduce waste they produce as much as possible during these times. Just like how these workers continue to serve the country in hard times, the citizens have a responsibility to fulfill by cooperating and making workers’ duties easier for them.
