The low-cost budget airline, Wizz Air has made a debut in the Maldivian skies yesterday, with the first batch of tourists arriving last evening. The maiden voyage to the Maldives was commemorated by a special ceremony held to mark the occasion. The ceremony was graced by Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdullah Mausoom and Managing Director of MACL, Mahjoob Shuaau along with other dignitaries.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom stated that Wizz Air has started operations at a critical time when air travel fares have soared due to rising oil prices in the world market. He followed this remark by adding that through budget airlines such as Wizz Air, the fluctuations in demand caused by rising travel fares can be mitigated.
Four direct flights are scheduled between Abu Dhabi International Airport and Velana International Airport each week, with two flights over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Two more flights will be operated on weekdays namely, Tuesday and Thursday. The flights will be operated by using Airbus A321 neo class commercial aircrafts. The fare for each flight is set at U$D 97 with tickets bookings done via the application or by visiting the airline website.
