Women Rising in Maldives Football

In South Asian Games held in Nepal this year, Maldives National Women’s Team won bronze medal by beating Sri Lanka 2-1. Under the coaching of Ahmed Nashid, this is the greatest achievement by the National Women’s football so far. In 2016, Maldives got 4th place in their first year of participation in SA women’s football. While Nepal and India went to the finals, Sri Lanka and Nepal collide after losing previous 2 matches. Aminath Shamila and Aishath Firushana were the scorers of the match.

National Women’s team has also been a participant of SAFF Championship since 2010. After their first win in 2014, they reached semi-finals in 2016. These victories prove that both women and men in Maldives can reach heights in the field of this popular sport.
