India and Maldives have signed six memorandums for establishing the Addu Tourism zone in five islands of Addu atoll and a bottled water plant in Hoarafushi.
Addu tourism zone, worth $2.40 million dollars, is established in 5 islands in Addu: Maamen beach in Hithadhoo, Venbolhofishi Hotel in Maradhoo, Savaa Beach in Feydhoo, Kayvah Beach in Hulhudhoo and Koagan Beach in Meedhoo. The water plant project in Hoarafushi is worth MVR 8 million.
The memorandums were signed between the High Commissioner of India Sunjay Sudhir, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and Addu City Council.
All six projects are grant projects falling under India’s High Impact Community Development Scheme (HICDP). These projects are driven by the needs of communities on the islands.
