People’s Majlis has made an announcement regarding the proposals made by the Laamaseelu committee concerning the various initiatives taken by the government amid the CVID19 pandemic. Here are some of the proposals made:
While the government has introduced various loan schemes and finance to help SME businesses, farmers, resorts, guesthouses and fishermen, the negative impacts faced by private businesses in islands should be examined through the council from Local Government Authority and in order to provide solutions to the damages, an arrangement should be made to make it easier for these businesses to apply for different finance schemes by the government.
Further, the committee made many proposals regarding STO’s initiative with farmers to increase food security in the country. To encourage people to do farming in unused spaces in houses, councils should provide information regarding farming in smaller spaces through LGA. It also proposed to provide land for those who would like to do farming in the island and use uninhabited islands for farming for a short period of time. A survey should be carried out and it should be checked whether farming is done by Maldivians.
Island councils should also inform regarding the unemployed workers and also provide the workers with information regarding the assistance provided by the government for them and ensure that there are arrangements for them to easily apply for these.
