Enhancing Airport Safety: Velaana International Airport Undergoes ACI Apex Assessment

The launch event brought together key figures, including Ibrahim Sharif Mohammed, CEO and Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), along with Deputy Managing Directors Mohammed Lam'an and Mujtaba Lateef. Also in attendance was ACI's Apex Team Leader, Gary Bowden, and other officials involved in the assessment process.

In his remarks, CEO Ibrahim Sharif Mohammed emphasized the rapid development of Vellana International Airport, noting its ongoing modernization to meet international standards. He highlighted the increasing number of airlines and passengers utilizing the airport, reinforcing the need for robust security measures. The Apex Security Assessment is seen as a vital component of this effort, with plans to develop a tailored action plan based on the assessment's findings.

The assessment will leverage the expertise of experienced airport security professionals, ensuring that the findings lead to effective and practical improvements. Conducted in collaboration with the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), the Apex Security Assessment is designed to identify areas for enhancement in security protocols and operations at VIA.

The company collaborates with various global organizations, including the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), ACI, and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), to continuously strengthen airport operations and safety measures.
