The Dubai-based airline, flydubai has announced that they are gearing up to expand the network to the Maldives by introducing a new daily service to Gan International Airport. Located in the Southernmost atoll of Maldives, Gan International Airport will receive visitors from flydubai starting from 4th February 2023.
The international airline first commenced flights to Velana International Airport in 2013 and is the first carrier from UAE to operate flights to Gan International Airport. With the start of the new service, flydubai will be increasing its frequency to the island destination to 28 flights per week.
Chief Executive Officer of flydubai, Ghaith Al Ghaith remarked “The start of our daily flights to the southern island of Gan will give our passengers more options to travel to the beautiful Maldives. This new service will reduce the commute time whether by boat or seaplane for those staying in resorts in the southern atolls. The Maldives continues to be one of the most popular leisure destinations for our customers from the UAE, FCC and CIS. The additional frequency to the market will further support connecting traffic from the Europe as well”.
Managing Director of Inner Maldives Holidays & General Sales Agent for flydubai, Mohamed Firaq said “We are very excited to commence flydubai operations to a second airport in the Maldives, especially it been the southernmost region of the country. Addu City will also be flydubai’s 100th destination. For the past 2 years, we have done comprehensive assessment on operating flights to Gan and created awareness among many tour operators and tourist facilities in the Southern atoll to increase connectivity and inbound traffic to contribute tourism growth in the region”.
