What started as a research project across the Maldivian archipelago in 2005 is today one of the largest and longest-standing manta conservation groups in the world. Maldivian Manta ray Project was a collaboration and networking effort between passionate dive instructors, biologists, communities, and tourism operators who got together to learn and research about the nation’s Manta Ray population.
With roughly a dozen MMRP staff based across several atolls, intense research has identified over 5000 different individuals since the project commenced, making the Manta population in the Maldives the largest and most studied population in the world.
If this sounds interesting to you, consider getting lucky today. The Maldivian manta Ray project has announced internship opportunities with the organization for the year 2021, giving you a three-month exclusive insight into the Manta madness in the Maldives.
As an intern, you will be involved first-hand with manta scientists in collecting vital data on the world’s largest-known population of reef manta rays while cruising atolls in search of Mantas. Your contribution will become part of the MMRP database used by national stakeholders.
As long as you are an excellent swimmer with a passion for the charismatic giants of the sea (along with minimal other basic requirements, of course) and are willing to bring your own gear along, you are most welcome to apply for this extremely competitive and popular opportunity. Not only will you be exposed to working with specialized multi-national groups, you will also arm yourself with knowledge and experience that can lead you to do a bigger part in conserving the marine animals, environment and the world.
