The Maldives made a strong impression at the Diving & Resort Travel Expo (DRT Show) 2024, held from December 13th to 15th in Hong Kong. The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives), in collaboration with the National Boating Association of Maldives (NBAM), showcased the country’s stunning underwater world and its growing reputation as a world-class diving destination.
The event brought together tourism professionals from across the globe, and six companies from the Maldives tourism sector participated alongside Visit Maldives and NBAM. These included Carpe Diem Maldives Pvt Ltd, Marselia Maldives, Voyages Maldives Pvt Ltd, Divescape Maldives Pvt Ltd, Highrise (Floating Asia & Maldives Marine Expo), and Noorani Travels Pvt Ltd. The DRT Show served as an ideal platform for promoting the Maldives’ diving services and underwater experiences to a global audience, particularly B2B travel trade professionals.
Visit Maldives took the opportunity to present a wide range of offerings, from resorts and guesthouses to liveaboards and hotels, highlighting the country’s exceptional diving opportunities. The fair also enabled the Maldives tourism industry to foster collaborations with international suppliers and buyers while reinforcing ties with existing partners.
Hong Kong continues to be a key market for the Maldives, and MMPRC is working hard to strengthen its presence in the region. The year saw the return of direct flights from Hong Kong to the Maldives, the first since 2020. Additionally, MMPRC has rolled out a variety of targeted marketing initiatives, including campaigns in China, webinars, and partnerships with key tourism players like Fliggy and PADI. These efforts are aimed at solidifying the Maldives as the ultimate destination for diving and marine tourism.
