Saturday 3rd of April 2021

We must be doing a lot of things right because as per statistics, new records have been set and recovery looks promising. For the first time since Maldivian Borders bravely reopened for tourism in July 2020, the number of tourist arrivals in a month surpassed the 100,000th mark in March 2021, summing up to 109,585 tourist arrivals in the month. Even though this was a regular monthly achievement pre-pandemic, being able to achieve similar numbers at a time when travel restrictions have closed off a number of the destination's source markets is a celebratory milestone for the Maldives.

Slowly but steadily, the average number of tourist arrivals per day has also been increasing, reaching 3550 in the last month. It has been noticed that tourist arrivals accelerate towards festive holidays, the highest number of tourist arrivals per day hitting a record high at 5516, also last month.

Numerous marketing activities being held in the current major markets of India as Russia has greatly improved their market share, placing them at the top of the chart with 23.4% and 21.3% respectively. Enticing holiday offers and the wide variety of stay choices, a total of 694 establishments, including hotels and safari vessels operating over 46000 tourist beds in the Maldives at the moment to be exact, lures all different types of guests to the Maldivian shores. This spans from international influencers to acclaimed actors from Bollywood whose social media presence has greatly broadened the new audiences we are able to reach now.

The islands of the Maldivian archipelago might be remote but is well connected to the outside world via 29 scheduled and chartered flights touching down regularly at Velana International Airport. Having an affluent reputation as a high-end luxurious destination, wealthy visitors seek safe haven across exclusive resorts by arriving on their private jets to the welcoming gateways in the Maldives as well.

All guests arriving to the Maldives are provided reassurance of safety and wellbeing of them being priority at every touch point. The majority of front liners of the Maldivian tourism industry, 14,989 as of March 25, have been vaccinated with the first doze against Covid19 in a nation-wide vaccination drive aiming to be the first in the world to have a fully vaccinated force serving in the industry.

The Maldives as safe as it can ever be, so what are you waiting for?
